About Our Church

The Church at Telford was first known as the Northern Methodist when the congregation moved from Paynetown to Telford Station in the late-mid eighteen hundreds. The original building was a large wooden structure with two doors on the front, and was lost due to fire in early 1951. Many of the church records were lost in this fire and could not be replaced.

The first service in the new church, known as Telford Episcopal Church, was held in 1952. The new building was dedicated May, 18th 1955. Pastor M.F. Goss, District Superintendent Rev. Woody Stone, and Bishop Roy H. Short were present and participated in the first service in the new building. The land, in which the original and present structure stand, was a gift. The contractor for the structure was Richard Ellis Sr., who worked close with the building committee- Guy Wiseman, Horace Hartman Sr., Robert Hunt Sr., Guy Maloney, J.L. Murr, Roy Mauk, and E.J. Shanks.

The current name Telford United Methodist Church was adopted in 1968 when the Methodist Episcopal Church united with Evangelical Brethren. Throughout the years TUMC has been a beacon to the community. As progress was made in evangelism…notable additions were required---a new fellowship hall on the west end of the building, the paving of the parking lot, and the new front entrance and handicap ramp.

Telford is currently part of a 2-point charge with Asbury UMC in Limestone. This Telford/Asbury charge was formed in June 2019.

TUMC has an active membership. We seek to live out our missional directive to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world through 6 words printed weekly in our bulletin:

Be Real.

Be Loving.

Be Involved.
